On Tuesday October 22, LA On Air with Bray J will make its debut on Louisiana Indie Radio with the focus being Louisiana based music artists at its core. The online show will air on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7 a.m. and will introduce listeners to new artists, give updates on the film, art and entertainment scene statewide, while providing random bits/segments to help ease listeners into their day. The goal by having a show on Louisianaindieradio.com is for music artists that already air their music and those that wish to, can have more interaction with listeners. The idea is that by having a person or in this case the show’s hosts saying the musician or bands name it will stick better in the listeners mind. The host of LA On Air, Braylin Jenkins said, “We want to help connect our local and statewide music artists with residents who do not typically go out at night or those who rarely experience the bar scene with the hope that the music artists become household names. The growth of a music artists or band should begin here at home.”
After gaining experience from hosting an online show in 2009 that broadcast over the course of three years, to gaining experience in print, FM radio and television, Jenkins thought that now would be an ideal time to highlight the talent which currently exists throughout the state. “The past five years were building blocks for this opportunity and I credit each person and company that I have been associated with for helping to develop my passion and knowledge. Recently, I revisited the team at Louisiana Indie Radio and we agreed that now was the perfect time for this movement to begin taking shape” said Jenkins.
Jenkins said he learned a lot about his demographic during his tenure at McNeese State University and realized there was somewhat of a disconnection when it came to students who live on campus and their engagement in the Southwest Louisiana region. Jenkins hopes that LA On Air and www.louisianaindieradio.com will be used as a tool that will help bridge the gap and show students the numerous opportunities available to them in their city or town across the state. The LA On Air team plans to contact the Student Union Board, administration and other groups at McNeese State University and Sowela Technical Community College to see how they can assist them as well as ways we can engage students in a positive way.
LA On Air co-host Lana, as she will be known on LA On Air said, “The music artists that will be aired on our show can expect their hard work and passion to be showcased effectively and professionally.” Lana is passionate about music of all kinds and loves discovering new talent and sounds. As a mother of two, she hopes that she will be able to identify with other moms and highlight activities that will be beneficial to them while also encouraging parents to regain their youth and continue to enjoy life.
