Annual Low Cost Rabies Vaccination Clinics Announced
Spay/neutered animals qualify for reduced vaccination and licensing rates
The Office of Animal Services invites pet owners to take part in two low-cost drive-thru rabies clinics to prevent the spread of Rabies Infection in Calcasieu Parish. The vaccination and licensing fee for spay/neutered animals is $8. Unaltered pets have a $10.00 fee. Pet owners may pay by cash or check. Micro-chipping will also be available at the clinics.
Clinic dates, time, and locations are:
• March 28, 2015 7am – 12pm West Cal Arena & Events Center in Sulphur
• April 25, 2015 7am – 12pm Burton Coliseum Complex in Lake Charles
Dogs will need to be on a leash and cats must be in a portable kennel. According to Louisiana State Code, all dogs and cats over the age of three months are required to be vaccinated for rabies and licensed.
Once a pet is vaccinated by a licensed Louisiana Veterinarian in Calcasieu Parish, pets are required to wear a license tag in all areas of Calcasieu. Cat owners are also encouraged to place the tag on a humane breakaway collar.
Reminder: a resident or any group feeding stray animals should note they assume ownership of those animals under their care. The legal definition of a pet owner is “any person, business or any other legal entity that provides care, harbors, acts as custodian, or permits an animal to remain on or about his premises.” In the event someone is bitten, this person or entity could be held responsible.
