The List of KB Kronic
by Kellen Bergeron
First off I would like to apologize to anyone who was looking forward to my review of No Mercy. While the Triple Threat match between Dean Ambrose, John Cena, and AJ Styles lived up to the expectations, Dolph Ziggler and Miz’s Career vs title match went above my expectations, and the return of Luke Harper gave me a small glimmer of hope for the Orton and Wyatt feud… I just couldn’t find the words to express how upset I was with the rest of the PPV. This is what has brought me to what you about to read, The List of KB Kronic. This will be a list of everything I find wrong with WWE right now, not only to get it off my chest but to also potentially ignite some discussion on the topic and see what you the readers think on the subject. Without further rambling, here is the list…
1.) Terrible Booking – So many things could be solved if they would just book the correct matches. Matches that make sense. Example, if Becky Lynch couldn’t defend her title at No Mercy, why have Alexa Bliss (You’re number one contender) lose to Naomi? Example number 2, Why is Goldberg coming back to face Brock Lesnar? Who gains anything from that? What story do these examples tell?
2.) So many titles but few of them matter – Titles hold zero prestige in the WWE anymore. Aside from the WWE World Title, the WWE Women’s title, and the WWE Cruiserweight Title it’s easy to not care about the title matches. Maybe this can fall under booking as well but it frustrates me so much as a fan that I feel it needed its own special place on the list.
3.) So many PPVs, zero PPV matches – At first two PPVs a month sounded like a good idea. Then I experienced it. Effectively they give you one great match per PPV and six cable TV matches. Why? Your rosters and talent pools are stacked, let them run wild on the network.
4.) In touch with the internet community – So I agree that for a good while WWE lost touch with the fans. I won’t sit here and say they haven’t made great strides in the right direction, I mean AJ Styles and Kevin Owens are your top guys and we have a Cruiserweight division on RAW. My issue comes when jobbers start becoming number one contender. It reminds me of the terrible decision to have David Arquette. If you don’t remember this moment you’re blessed.
5.) Misuse of Talent – This one really strikes a nerve for me. Granted it also falls under the terrible booking but still. While I’m not sure how much of the articles I read on injuries and people being put on suspension or being “future endeavor’d” is just cooked up after a lot of he said she said, it’s happening to often. If it were just out of the blue once or twice a year that would be one thing, but it’s not. Every few months groups of superstars are being shelfed because of injuries or off failing wellness tests and getting the axe. Most of the ones getting the axe are wrestlers that barely see TV time and potentially the same amount of house show time. Those two things combined sounds a lot like an unhappy work environment and something needs to change.
6.) The Internet – What? You thought I was going to just let the biggest cause of my turmoil slip through the cracks? Wrong! While the internet is a wonderful way to expel issues out into the public eye for all to see, it’s also a place where rarely anything constructive is presented to fix said issues. It’s been stated multiple times in multiple interviews with wrestlers and people directly involved in wrestling companies that the internet is the greatest source of expansion and the greatest source of destruction. (Maybe not in those words but you get the idea.) We as fans need to find a way to present constructive ideas instead of just bashing everything till it’s on life support. Clearly they listen to some of what’s said, why not make it constructive instead of destructive.
This is currently The List of KB Kronic. If you hadn’t figured it out by this point I stole the idea from Chris Jericho because that’s one of the few reasons I attempt to keep up with RAW now. These are things that have been on my mind for the past few months. When I found myself watching the Presidential Debate during No Mercy, that’s where I drew the line. With these six points I want anyone who reads this to either give constructive points on what could be done or just flat out tell me I’m wrong with a valid point backing up your opinion. This is a full discussion topic and I’ll be checking on it from time to time during the week.
That’s pretty much all I have for right now. Here’s hoping that Hell in a Cell is better than the last few PPVs or I might just have to take a break from my little wrestling world. I hope to hear from most of you in the comments. Until next time…
