Super late (I promise we’re attempting to get better at this) but @wisemanshade has finally had a pause in all the goings on to give a decent report on this. I apologize in advance as this may be some content you’re not aware of in this post if you aren’t a member of The Mind’s Eye Society, which if you are not, look below if you’re interested in White Wolf LARP in the area and we can get you started!
Vampire the Requiem:
While I’ve weaved in and out of the venue, even though its my most loved, I found the gathering pleasant. I met with people I was introduced to from SERE, once again a grandmaster had to have my back in yet another kill box and secrets were revealed and tools were given to us for the meta plot ending chronicle. Nycci definitely gave us an awesome setting and experience even if all of it was beyond my understanding with the whole Dracula death, Lilith being a synth and us all being the kids of VII. I walked away with some goodies due to the failed Requiem tech tree which I wish would have just been done as they did in Accord and some great memories with people I’ve come to play around but not actually with… hopefully, that changes as I attend more cons
Werewolf the Apocalypse:
SERE ruined me for this game as we went from an epic tiered quest to put down a huge opponent to something much more challenging: The longest meeting known to shifter kind. The only thing I would have changed about this game is people’s attention spans. Entirely too often for my taste people came and spoke of concerns that were already addressed but themes of community, doing the right thing, mutual respect and understanding were shared leading to what should be the Fera joining the “Gaian Nation”… should be an awesome stepping stone and I know I enjoyed being part of history
Vampire the Masquerade:
Showing up to hear everyone’s opinion of the Switzerland domain… really who cares? But what I did care about was meeting Elder Eli and my sire maybe? perhaps? Neither of us knows but the awesome Elder Atticus. I had meetings upon meetings on Camilla issues, IC and OOC dealings with my house and lastly being present as Alexandria where I play frequently should have gotten the memo that things you do in your game DO affect the larger scope as an Elder wondered about missing members of our Sect. I have to say I was pretty impressed with the Seneshal who is a new player stepping up, claiming responsibility and being pretty professional about the whole thing as we move on and good on her because I have a sneaking suspicion she’ll be that domain’s newest and probably longest reigning prince.
I skipped out on the second game but definitely have to give props for the costuming I did see especially from the Alexandrian domain, I was no way as prepared for “Vampire Prom” as they were and hold they had as good of a time as they looked.
Accord the Combined:
So much great RP, feels, discovery, intrigue… It was so rewarding for me to see everyone’s journey, including the “guy in the trench coat who walked through the door” who was annoying everyone… but the choices our PCs have to make giving the game definitive ending and meaning means so much to me. We’re moving into my third chronicle soon and none of them have given to me what Accord has: real investment of my PC, an actual national journey, recognition on why I play in the MES in the first place and lasting a REAL end where I don’t have the guess on the state of the world, Dain Geist and Matt Blank for their ending hard word (and other I don’t know behind the scenes) truly have my thanks.
Space: I threw a PC together at the encouragement of my DST and off we went and boy did I get out shined. I think I saw someone with three costume changes within a 3 hour span. While there were complaints of having no sheets and how would the conflict be resolved there didn’t seem to be any, all the focus was on RP, experiencing each other’s characters and figuring out the Unions for the uninformed. I appreciated the Debutants presentations and showcases and Ruby Rod errrrr Mr Tomorrow was definitely a fan favorite of mine. As with the last custom venue here, it took a bit to get off the ground but I believe with more info coming soon we may play in my home domain… or we better get used to heading to Houston.
Venue: Holiday Inn Downtown Austin
Awesome rate (which I still owe my roommate / DST like 140 bucks), the venue environment was excellent with enough play space to ensure everyone wasn’t on top of each other. in typical LARP setup tables were plentiful and refreshments in the corner of every venue in the form of whatever mixed drink you preferred was a decent touch.
In closing, I appreciated all the effort the staff took to bringing this all together for us and providing more positive enforcement as to why I’m still a member of this club today… till next convention.
