Lake Charles is now home to the latest affiliate of Christian Youth Theater (CYT), an after-school theater arts training program for students ages 4-18.
CYT is the largest youth theater program in the nation, with affiliates across the country. Classes began last week with over 80 children registered for the first ten-week session teaching drama, voice and dance by professional instructors at weekly two-hour classes. More than 30 of the students, ages 8-18, have registered to audition and perform in the production of Elf Jr., which will be presented Friday, Dec. 1 through Sunday, Dec. 3. The younger students, ages 4-7, will be presenting a showcase for family and friends at the end of their ten weeks of classes. The older students will also present a showcase.
The mission of CYT is to develop character in children and adults through training in the arts and by producing wholesome family entertainment, all of which reflect Judeo-Christian values. Registration for the next set of ten-week classes will begin in Jan. 2018 and the 8-18-year-old enrolled students will have the opportunity to audition and perform (or work behind-the-scenes) in a Broadway-style musical, which will performed for the community.
