Property tax, homestead and sales tax
Two offices handle property tax in Calcasieu Parish. The assessor sets your home's value and grants exemptions. The sheriff sends the bill and collects it.
Exemptions
Calcasieu Parish Assessor
Homestead exemptions, the assessment freeze and property values. For the homestead exemption, bring your recorded act of sale, a Louisiana ID showing the property address and a current utility bill.

The assessment freeze
Locks your home's assessed value so it doesn't rise. For owners 65 and older, owners with a 100% Social Security disability, and veterans with a service-connected disability of 50% or more, whose household income is under the yearly limit: $102,700 in 2026. Bring a photo ID and last year's tax return. It takes a few minutes.

Sales tax
Calcasieu Parish Sales & Use Tax Department
Run by the school board. The combined rate depends on the address, because city and district taxes stack on the state and parish rates, so look up the exact rate for an address rather than relying on a single number.
